Forum: general Subject: Item access fatal error‏

Is there a limit to number of files in the item or uploads?

I was trying to upload some 6,236 short mp3 files (max size: 7.48 MB, min size: 141 KB), with combined total size of 5.72 GB.
Files were initially uploading fine till 2,000+ then I start seeing few upload errors "Error:500" but still error files were OK to play, with one exception that there names changed from CAPS to small letters. I thought it was still fine as long as it was playing fine. This went on till 3,000 where I start seeing almost all files start showing upload error "Error:500" then "Error: Files does exists", started. Please note that after initial 2000+ files I was using Edit (Update files) option with chunks of 200 files at a time.

Finally this error message...

"Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 75 bytes) in /usr/local/petabox/www/common/Video.inc on line 320 "

error message start occurring, if you try to access the item second time.

Also I was able to assess first time that the number of files showing up in the audio player are much less than what was thought to have already been uploaded.

Please advice, how this problem can be resolved

Sincerely
Thankful
Asim

yes, items are generally limited to 10GB and 1000 files. The more you add the more likely it is to break. Since metadata is at the item page level and not file level you should consider creating items based on common metadata. Keep your items less than 10GB and 1000 files an they should be ok.
